How To Get Rid Of Your Cable Box Or Satellite Dish And Watch TV On Your Computer: 7 Fun Freebies!

watching-tv-shows-on-computer-by-The-Doctr.jpg Did you know that you can get some of the exact same channels that you watch on cable and satellite television right on your computer?

Well…you can!

If you’re paying $90 or more a month to have cable or satellite television then you’re paying too much.

There is a wealth of television available online that is easy to access and watch if you know where to look.

That is the biggest thing: knowing where to find what you’re looking for. Because believe me, as much good stuff as there is available online, there is just as much junk.

Whatever you do, do not buy one of those software packages that "gives you satellite TV on your computer." Nearly all of them are a scam, and you can actually get the same software for free! Yup, that’s right for FREE, and I’ll tell you how to do that.

Here are 7 free programs that enable you to watch TV and movies on your computer…

The fact is, you can watch just about anything online — from old movies and television shows to the latest offerings of both.

Again, you just have to know where to look.

Two things to keep in mind:

#1  You really need to have high-speed cable Internet for this to work properly. I know dial-up won’t work at all. DSL might work some of the time, but I doubt it would work all of the time.

#2  Also, you need to be sure that you have updated copies of Windows Medial Player, Real Player and Quicktime, as some websites and applications use them for playing movies and TV shows. Most of us already have these programs on our computers, but if you don’t, you may need to download them in order for this to work. (They’re all free, as well.)

7 Ways To Watch Free TV & Movies Online

watching-survivor-reality-tv-on-computer-by-ladybugbkt.jpg So, where can you watch cable and satellite channels, as well as other television and movies online?

Here’s a comprehensive list of the best places that you can watch television and movies online for FREE:

TVU Networks is the best way to watch "live" streaming television online.

Here are a few of the channels that are available: Nickelodeon, Spike TV, Scifi Channel, Comedy Central, CBS, Sky News, and believe it or not HBO (although HBO has some advertising across the top of the picture, and it doesn’t come through as clear as other channels)

There are also several sports channels, and several that I think are satellite channels, such as Atlantis 1 and 2 which have movies and regular network shows (like Monk, for example).

On February 2, 2009 they added the software for a new player, so when you sign up for an account you can now stop, fast forward, and record shows just like you would with your Tivo. The drawback is that while it is free now, they plan on making it a paid service in the future. Personally, I think even without it, this is the best way to watch TV online.

Another nice thing is that you don’t have to download the player; you can watch using the player on their website instead (if you need to save on space on your computer’s hard drive) or if you’re accessing TVU Networks from someone else’s computer. But I have to say, I really love their player and have downloaded it myself!

Tidal TV is one very cool way to watch television online.

It has several channels for free that you would normally have to pay for on cable and satellite. Some of the channels that are streamed live are: The Food Network, HGTV, Discovery Pulse, CBS Prime, CBS Crime, DIY, FLN, Travel Channel, The Weather Channel, CNBC Originals, Sony Pictures Television, TV Classics, Cartoon Classics, National Geographic Channel and several others.

This is definitely one of the best ways to watch live television online since there are are even a few channels you don’t get with basic cable packages!

Inner-Live is another great way to watch TV online.

This on
e isn’t as nice as TVU or Tidal TV, but it does have some very nice movie channels. Plus, it has CNN and the Cartoon Network, to name a couple of others.

One unique feature (that you’ll either love or hate) is the fact that they have a chat room going at the same time as the channel. Unfortunately, their full-screen option isn’t really full-screen. Also, not all of the channels work, I couldn’t get Discovery, or ESPN to work at all.

Despite these things, Inner-Live is definitely worth checking out because they have some channels that you can’t get on other websites that show live streaming television.

Hulu is a little different than the live streaming television you can watch on TVU, Inner-Live, and Tidal TV, but it is no less powerful.

Hulu has coupled movies and TV shows from all over the television universe and made them available to anyone to watch for free. Don’t want to pay $50 to purchase your favorite scifi series (such as Firefly, for example)? Now you don’t have to! Hulu has the entire first (and I believe only) season there for you to watch! They also have House, Bones, The Simpsons and Nip/Tuck, to name just a few others.

I’ve been absolutely ecstatic to find the entire series of some of my favorite shows on Hulu. Also, their player rocks! It’s one of the clearest… no fuzzies, no stopping, the most beautiful full-screen that I’ve seen so far. Even a tad better than TVU!

Oh, and you can subscribe to your favorite shows, so any time a new episode is posted you will get an e-mail!

Fancast is similar to Hulu, but has some different shows.

Some of the shows available on Fancast are: Grey’s Anatomy, Battlestar Galactica, Reba, Scrubs, and Sliders, just to name a few. There are usually just a small selection of episodes for these shows though (…unlike Hulu, which has an entire season or more).

However, in defense of Fancast, they have a very large selection of full-length movies that you can watch online.

One of the things that is less pleasant about Fancast is that just like regular television, it has commercials. And if you are watching something on full-screen, when a commercial comes on it will pop back to small screen which I personally find rather annoying.

Still, if you can’t find what you’re looking for on the first 4 services listed above, Fancast is worth checking out.

World TV PC is a great website with loads of links to all sorts of television, movies, documentaries, and much much more!

If you’re looking for something such as Bollywood movies for example, or something else that is maybe not something everyone would watch, this is the website for you.

It is also the website that has the free satellite TV software I was speaking of earlier.

One thing to keep in mind is that World TV PC gives you access to mainly foreign Internet television channels that are available online. You don’t have to download any software to get these channels, they are available on the website through the Internet TV link in the left sidebar. However, if you enjoy being able to access all the channels at once, then the software works great!

Watch Movies Links is a website that posts the links where movies are available to be watched online.

There are literally thousands of places you can watch movies online. I’ve watched some really fantastic movies on links posted on this website.

While the quality of the online players isn’t always that great, sometimes there is some pixelation, and occasionally the soundtrack will be a little off, it’s still worth checking out — especially if you can’t find a movie that you want to watch on one of the other websites listed here.

One thing worth mentioning is that some of the movie links are to movies that are currently out in theaters. Watch Movie Links itself isn’t doing anything illegal by posting links to where these movies can be watched online, but if you were to download one of these movies to your computer (say, with Real Player which has that option) so you could watch it later, you would be breaking copyright laws. In essence, that would be making an illegal copy. So, my advice is to just watch the movies; don’t download them. That way, there’s no way for you to get into trouble.

I’ve found that there is always at least one good link if not more for each movie on this website, so you will always be able to go back and watch any movie again later if you want to.

A Word Of Caution…

One final thing I want to say is to be very very wary of any website that claims it can get you all the premium cable and satellite channels you want. 99.9% of the time it’s not true. In fact, they usually want you to pay for some piece of software, or add some new component to your computer or something of this nature before the "free" channels will be available to you.

Then, after you do it, you discover it’s 2000+ foreign Internet channels that you can access for free online anyway. So, you just paid $50 or more for nothing!

So there you have it. I’ve done the research for you and put it all in one place for you in this article. As you can see, there are several premium channels that you can access for free, including HBO if you know where to look.

I have personally checked all of these out and know for a fact that they do work, and that they are free.

So, now that you know how to watch television and movies online, there’s no reason to keep that cable box or satellite dish — or pay those horrendous monthly fees — any longer when you can watch all the TV and movies online that you could ever wish
for… for FREE.

See how one couple canceled their paid TV service, and now they get all their TV shows, movies, news and sports through their computer. In the 16 months they’ve gone without paid TV, they’ve saved $1,488!
